swatching for a variation of this project:

from left: debbie bliss eco cotton, sublime organic cotton, plymouth earth oceanside organic cotton

i love the vanilla color of the sublime but...

...i think plymouth is my favorite of the three for this project. i've used the others for other projects and loved them but i think this will be the right one for this project.

i'm trying to work on a shared goal (with these fabulous friends) of posting at least once a week, but i can't seem to craft quickly enough. i'm working on another pair of knit pants, so hopefully those will be done later today, but it's a busy day ahead of me, so we'll see.

in the meantime, a friend - with whom i and another friend have an idea brewing for a special project in the vicinity of the vein of the above - threw a party for her mom's birthday and i helped where i could, as she'd made a lot of the decor beforehand. i was pretty in love with how everything turned out.

unfortunately, since we've been busy moving, unpacking, and cleaning all weekend, i found myself entirely unproductive last night when left to my own devices with the husband gone at band practice.

so, i wandered around and tripped out on our great new tile on the kitchen floor

...and noticed how the tile in the shower is nearly the same as at our last place,

...and became fairly unmotivated to do much of anything but laze and daydream and get nostalgic,

...so, i looked through some old pictures,

...and flipped through a cookbook,

...and turned off the light and went to sleep.

trying out various decreases and increases from a variety of shorts and pants patterns to figure out what i like and don't like for an upcoming pattern i have in my head:

a gift for our favorite and most bass guitar-obsessed 3 year old:

a thunderbird he can rock to the ground (his fantastic phrase), though it's floppier than i was hoping it would be. if i can figure that out, i'll have to make a few different kinds, as they're pretty fun to dream up and make.

i've been spending a lot of time reading these two websites:

-operation NICE is absolutely beautiful and makes me want to be a better person

-improv everywhere is just hilarious and i love that they just want to bring fun to the everyday

what lovely reminders to be kind and thoughtful and interested and joyful

more distractions:

an early semi-success with this fun pattern using test fabric and funny tension last month... (stitch magazine pattern)

led to this, but i'm not sure if the pattern on the fabric works for this skirt or not. i do love the fabric (and the skirt pattern) in general, though. both skirts still need buttons
